The summer of 2024 is the perfect time to get ready for next basketball season by working on your shot. Individual workouts are all you have this summer to seperate yourself from your competition. Do you think you can shoot a basketball 10,000 times this summer? That’s 100 shots a day over the next 100 days. Practicing your shot with correct form now will make a huge difference in your confidence and your game next season. What are you going to do to earn more playing time? What are you doing to get 1% better everyday? Could you do more and make 10,000 shots this summer? Who will make the most shots this summer?
The Stroudsburg Girls Basketball Coaches have issued a challenge to shoot 10,000 times this summer outside of our workouts with correct form. If you complete 10,000 shots (or more) this summer, you will receive a prize (TBD) and online recognition for your accomplishment.
The 10,000 Shot Club Summer Challenge is open to all girls who are entering 8th thru 12th grade and who played in the program last season. There is no cost to participate. Simply get a form from your coach, commit to shooting 10,000 shots this summer, and record your shots daily on the summer shot tracking sheet. At the end of the summer tally your shot totals at a regulation height basket and have your parents validate your total shots.
Good Luck!

FAQ
Want to join the club?
Commit to shoot 10,000 game shots from game spots at game speed using correct form this summer and record your progress on the shot chart or in a summer shooting journal. The challenge begins on June 1st and finishes on September 8th.
What are game shots?
Game shots are different for every player. To be successful, you should start in close to the basket working on proper form. Once you have warmed up and established your range (distance from the basket where you can shoot the ball with proper form) you are ready to get started. If you are a post player, you should shoot closer to the basket, use less dribbles to create your shot, and work on using the back board. If you are a perimeter player, you will shoot from further away from the basket, use dribble moves to create your shot, and work on catching and shooting or penetrating to the basket. If you play both in the post and on the perimeter, mix up your shooting workouts.
Why game speed?
Standing around and shooting with a friend is fun, but it will not help you get better in game situations. You should shoot all of your shots at game speed to simulate things that will happen in a game setting. Shooting workouts should cause you to get tired and also cause you to sweat.
Do Free Throws count?
Yes. A good shooting workout will consist of approximately 25% of your shots being free throws. Free throws are best shot when you are tired and are a great way to rest during a workout. Simplify your free throw routine so that it will become repeatable under pressure.
Can I just guess how many shots I shoot?
No. Develop your own shooting routine or ask Coach Field for a customized shooting workout. Once you have a set routine it should be easy to count your shots. Try shooting 25 shots at game spots at game speed and follow it with 10 free throws as you rest. Repeat this shooting routine three more times and finish with 10 extra free throws. You will have just completed a shooting workout with 100 shots and 50 free throws (25-10, 25-10, 25-10, 25-20). Record that information on the summer shot chart or in a summer shooting journal.
Should I also count my made shots?
Yes. Counting your made shots will help you understand where you shoot the best. It will also give you a reference for your daily improvement. The coaching staff recommends categorizing your shots by 3pters, FT, Jumpers, Layups, etc… to assist you in seeing your daily improvement in each category over the summer. How much better would you be if you made 10,000 shots this summer?
Do shots at individual shooting workouts or basketball camps count toward my summer total?
Yes. Any shots taken during individual shooting workouts with a coach, at a basketball camp during free time, or on the gun shooting machine after an open gym count toward your daily total. Just record them on your shot chart or in your shooting journal. If you attend a basketball camp or AAU workout and don't keep track of your shots you may count a maximum of 200 shots per each day toward your total.
Is there a daily max on the number of shots I can count toward my total?
Yes. The maximum number of daily shots you can count toward your summer total is 250. Why? The point of the challenge is to assist in building good shooting habits over a period of time. Bad habits form when a shooter is too tired to shoot with proper footwork and form. Excessive shooting will not assist in helping to build good shooting habits. Shooting 1,000 shots a day for 10 days to win the challenge will not help you become a better shooter.
Does my parent have to watch me shoot every shot?
No. Your parent only needs to vouch that to the best of their knowledge you had the time and opportunity to shoot your shots that day. As young adults we trust you will be true to yourself and the program and be honest about your efforts and results. If your parents want to help that is great but not required.
How do I submit my records?
Submit all of your summer paperwork in person to Coach Field or drop ot off at his mail box at the athletic office at the high school on or before September 20, 2024. Total up all of your shots, figure out your shooting percentage, show any graphs or shot charts that you created, and make sure that all shots have been verified by a parent/guardian. You must submit your shooting form to receive credit for your shots.
