Matthew Field, AIC
Varsity Head Coach
Coach Field recently completed his fifth season as Girls’ Varsity Head Coach at Stroudsburg High School and is 65-52 overall. Last Season the varsity team finished with a 13-10 record, won the Lake Region Tip-Off Tournament, and qualified for its fourth consecutive District XI tournament. In 2017-2018 the varsity team finished with a 17-7 record winning its second E.P.C. Mountain Division Championship. The team qualified for its second E.P.C. tournament and its third District XI tournament finishing a game shy of the state playoffs for a second consecutive season. For the first time in program history the team was voted #1 team in the BRCTV end of the season poll. In 2016-17 the varsity team finished 17-8, won the Bangor Holiday Hoops Classic Championship, and won its first E.P.C. Mountain Division Championship. These were the program's first titles since the 1999-2000 season.
Before coaching girl’s basketball, he was the Boys’ Varsity Head Assistant at Stroudsburg under Coach Shawn Thornton for six seasons. While coaching with Shawn Thornton, the boy’s were a six time District XI qualifier, two time District XI semi-finalist, won the Mountain Valley Conference Championship in 2009, and qualified for the P.I.A.A. state playoffs in 2014.
Coach Field is a 1999 graduate of Stroudsburg High School where he lettered in three sports. He was a member of three Mountain Valley Conference Championship basketball teams (1997, 1998, 1999), and two P.I.A.A. state playoff teams as a District XI runner up (1998) and as a District XI Champion (1999). In addition, he was a two time P.I.A.A state qualifier in Track and Field, a District XI Champion in the 400 meters, and graduated with school records in the 800 meters, 4x800 meter relay, and the 4x400 meter relay. As a senior he was selected as the "Most Outstanding Male Athlete" by the Stroudsburg Varsity "S" Association.
Coach Field is an Accredited Interscholastic Coach (AIC) in Basketball from the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and was an inaugural Gold Licensed Youth Development Coach
through U.S.A. Basketball. He attended The Pennsylvania State University where he graduated with a degree in Accounting from the Smeal College of Business. He works locally as a financial
professional with a Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC) designation.
Anna DeVivo
Junior Varsity Head Coach
Coach DeVivo recently completed her second season as Girls' Junior Varsity Head Coach at Stroudsburg High School. In the past she served within the program as a volunteer assistant coach for all levels of our feeder program including freshman, junior high, and 5th/6th grade while completing her college degree.
Coach DeVivo is a 2012 graduate of Stroudsburg High School where she lettered in basketball. She was a member of four varsity teams, earning three varsity letters, while competing in both the Mountain Valley and District XI playoffs. Her senior season she was voted captain by her teammates and coaches.
Coach DeVivo attended East Stroudsburg University graduating with a degree in Health Science. She works as a social services professional with young children in Monroe County.
Kym Brown
Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Brown recently completed her first season as Girls' Assistant Varsity Coach after a brief hiatus from the program. Prior to joining the staff as a Assistant Varsity Coach she held a variety of upper level coaching positions at different times within the basketball program. These coaching experiencess culminated in her being named the Girls' Varsity Head Coach in 2006. Coach Brown successfully ran the Lady Mounties program for three seasons.
In addition to coaching basketball she has also coached volleyball, and track and field at Stroudsburg High School.
Coach Ryan attended Neshaminy high school outside of Philadelphia where she is a member of the Sports Hall of Fame. She is a graduate of East Stroudsburg University with a bachelors degree in Health and Physical Education. Coach Brown works at Stroudsburg High School as a Health and Physical Education Teacher.
Charlie Carmella
Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Carmella recently completed his second season in the program. It was his first season as Girl's Varsity Assistant Cooach after being the Girls' Freshman Assistant Coach the prior season. He previously coached within the program at a variety of levels. He was a coach for the 7th and 8th grade program in 2010-11. He was the Head Freshman Coach in 2011-12, and was the Head JV/Varsity Assistant Coach under Coach Ed Hagy until 2014.
Since 2011, Coach Carmella has also served the Stroudsburg area school district as an Assistant JV/Varsity Coach with the softball team. In addition, he coaches a local high school aged travel softball team that competes in the greater lehigh valley area.
Coach Carmella is married to his wife Carolyn with whom they have two daughters; Emily and Chloe. He works as a Realtor at Keller Williams Realty in Stroudsburg.
Andrew Kurnas
Assistant Varsity Coach
Coach Kurnas is entering his first season with the program. He previously coached for six seasons as the Junior Varsity Head Coach for Stroudsburg Boys Basketball under Coach Shawn Thornton.
While coaching with Shawn Thornton, the boy’s were a six time District XI qualifier, two time District XI semi-finalist, won the Mountain Valley Conference Championship in 2009, and qualified for the P.I.A.A. state playoffs in 2014.
Coach Kurnas is married to his wife Katharine with whom they have two daughters; Violet and Matilda. He works as an English teacher in the Stroudsburg Area School District.
